Since 2021, the Hagerty Drivers Foundation has been committed to providing funding to help young people obtain drivers education training through our License to the Future program. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, young drivers 16 to 19 are at a greater risk of motor vehicle crashes than any other age group. A quality driver training class can help, but courses can be expensive these days – between $200 and $1000 in many states.
Rooted in the foundation’s charitable purpose of shaping the future of car culture while celebrating our automotive past, the Hagerty Drivers Foundation provided over $150,000 in grants this year to 328 students seeking formal training through an accredited drivers training program. Since 2021, the Foundation has provided over eight hundred of these grants (up to $500 each), totaling more than $368,000!
In 2024, the grant funding went to students in 20 states, attending 55 different driving schools.
Students from ages 14-18 are eligible for the program and can apply during our open grant windows by telling us why they are excited to drive, answering some questions and optionally submitting a video showcasing their reason to get behind the wheel and get their license.
We are excited to continue this program in 2025 and will be opening the first application window Wednesday, February 26, 2025. Make sure to check back on our website here for full details if you know a young person that could use a grant to get their driver’s license!
